What Do Plant Assets and Clothing Have in Common?

Keywords: Asset Lifecycle Management, Assets, Compatibility, Interoperability, Operational Constraints.

Having just returned from IMC 2011 (International Maintenance Confe-rence), this author's head is full of ideas about asset lifecycle management and maintenance. After a trip there's lots of laundry to do and while per-forming this task I couldn't help but make the analogy of clothing as an asset. Certainly, clothing is not a piece of heavy plant equipment. However, like plant equipment, clothing is an asset with a lifecycle and with specific requirements and best practices in each phase. Some readers "outsource" the procurement and maintenance of their clothing assets to "third parties," with the services performed for a fee in some form or another, depending on the relationship of the owner/operator to the service provider.
