Study Overview

Manufacturing Recovery Has Begun But Is It Sustainable?
This report quantifies, analyzes, and forecasts the worldwide automation expenditures for the process industries.  A base year market size, forecast for each segment, and top leading suppliers for the overall market are presented.

2010 was an important year for the overall automation market as it saw a return to growth for many automation products and suppliers.  The timing of the recovery, however, was not felt evenly across the various suppliers and product segments.  Orders increased almost unilaterally for all of the major automation suppliers over the course of 2010 but the ability to turn these increased orders into recognized revenues varied significantly across the major suppliers depending on a number of factors including preferred sales channel and vertical market focus.  The most important factor contributing to each supplier’s ability to fully enjoy the recovery during 2010 is their mix between aftermarket sales and Greenfield projects.

Strategic Issues
The global process automation market continues to face difficulties as manufacturers continue to wait for a clear sign that the global economic recession has ended.  Below are some key strategies to enable automation suppliers to remain competitive, position themselves for continued success, and moderate the affects of the economic crisis.

  • Leverage high growth global regions
  • Plan for increasing demand
  • Leverage emerging growth industries
  • Address changing workforce demographics
